FIGS EVERYWHRE

I can remember many years ago, on cool summer mornings, my Mom would get my brothers & I up to pick figs at Miss TaLa's house.  It was VERY early.  The sun was barely up and the dew was heavy on the trees.  My brothers and I would climb high (the trees were old and not very high but they were very wide) on the ladders to get as many of those wonderful figs as we could.  I probably ate as many while picking as we brought home.  The downside to that were the fig sores that came along with the figs.  It was not a deterrent for any of us.

Mom would cook the figs down that same day.  Now I'm not a fan of whole cooked figs but I loved the "fig candy" that formed around the side of the pot as they cooked.  That was always reserved for me and only me.  If the truth be told, I pestered Mom the entire time they were cooking until she'd give that deliciousness to me.  She always mashed some of the cooked figs for me (she knew I didn't like whole cooked ones).  There is nothing better than a hot homemade biscuit with mashed up figs and butter on it.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Ok, enough of that.  This morning Jimmy & Flo Broussard called to ask if we want three, yes three, GALLONS  of fresh figs.  My car couldn't get there fast enough.  Alex, Eli and I have been eating them since we got home.  What a wonderful treat & wonderful memories they conjured up.

THANKS, JIMMY & FLO!!!
